The Osmosis Unit is a small research lab originally set up to investigate Pulse Reverse Osmosis, a new physico-chemical model of blood pressure. In order to fund this research it provides scientific consultancy, and osmotic analysis for cardiac research and for pharmaceutical quality control.

Medical invention expertise is provided for companies with a healthcare problem that has the potential to be turned into a product. This includes practical research, assistance in setting up a lab, advice on developing the idea into a prototype, setting up Intellectual property  protection, and linking with relevant partners for the sale and marketing of the product. Examples of some  of the projects in which we have been involved listed under the following link Projects undertaken by the Osmosis Unit

Osmotic pressure measurement including osmolality, colloid osmotic pressure (COP) and memrabne osmotic pressure (MOP) can be measured. For further information click on the following links Osmolality, colloid osmotic pressure

Our Mission

To utlize our expertise to convert healthcare problems into practical products.

Company Profile

The Osmosis Unit was originally set up in 1996 within the UK National Health Service. It became independent in 2000 and now provides osmotic analysis and scientific consultancy to the Healthcare industry. Products developed to date include a disk testing system for quantifying the removal of blood and protein from surgical instruments during the cleaning process, electro-elution a new method of removing protein from stainless steel, and the formulation for a non alcoholic bacterial wipe the first to demonstrate a residual antimicrobial effect.

Osmotic research undertaken by the Osmosis Unit has led to Pulse Reverse Osmosis, a new hypothesis of fluid balance and fluid exchange. This highlights the importance of osmotic pressure in the human circulation and suggests that imbalances between the osmotic pressure and the blood pressure result in hypertension, oedema, and shock.
